The Complete Guide to Fish Tales Super Jackpots

Nowadays super jackpots are practically handed out left and right. But back in 1992, a super jackpot was something that required blood, sweat and tears. One of the best examples of that can be found in Williams' Fish Tales. This is one of my favourite examples of risk vs reward in all of pinball.
1992 was an outstanding year for pinball, we had releases such as Creature from the Black Lagoon, Doctor Who, The Getaway, and The Addams Family. But today we are focusing on the classic, Fish Tales.
When playing Fish Tales, some players chase Monster Fish. Others Rock the Boat. But the real players know it's all about Super Jackpots.

How Do I Start Multiball?
If you're planning on cashing in some supers, you better get familiar with the casters club. This is a cheeky little shot tucked in on the right hand side of the playfield.
This can be cleanly shot from the left flipper, however depending on the copy and if if you're feeling brave, a backhand from the right flipper can also feed the ball into the club.
At the beginning of the game, locks are lit at the casters club. Lock yourself three balls to begin multiball! Simple as!
Subsequent multiballs will require you to relight the locks by hitting down the drop target blocking the casters club.

Playing Multiball
Now we're talking! Playing multiball on Fish Tales requires precision and control. This is one of those multiballs that separates the punters from the players.
Quite often I see players flail around for a minute, triple drain, and finish with less than 10 million on the board.
Shooting the Casters Club locks a ball and lights a jackpot for 20 seconds.
When three balls are in play... A second ball can be locked to reset the timer and double the jackpot
Jackpot is collected by shooting the left orbit and parking the ball in the top saucer.
If the jackpot isn't collected in time... Then the locked balls will be released and will have to be locked again.
Simple to learn... Hard to master...

How do i cash in super jackpots?
Smashing out some Fish Tales super jackpots is arguably one of the best feelings in all of pinball.
All you have to do is collect three main jackpots over the course of your game. This can be tracked by three lights above your flippers, "Tropical", "Fresh Water", and "Deep Sea". These will carry between multiballs, so you can take your time.
After the third jackpot is collected you are now ready for super's!
Straight up the middle is the riskiest shot in the game. The captive ball awards a Super Jackpot for every hit. There is no limit. As long as you can keep the multiball alive, you can keep cashing them in. When the multiball is finished, three more regular jackpots are needed to relight supers.
Super Jackpots are worth 100 million each.
Every time you relight Super Jackpots, their value increases by 100 million.
If Supers are lit and you drain out of multiball before cashing in a single one, they'll still be lit at the start of your next multiball.
